14,000 square metres of asbestos roof removed and a new roof reinstated on a fertiliser facility.
This project involved the roof removal and reinstatement at a large fertiliser facility. Initial works included the displacement of ridge cappings and installation of a tailored static line to ensure maximum safety. The team also laid 75m2 of 3mm thick mesh onto the existing roof to increase stability. Then, 14 000m2 of asbestos roofing was systematically removed and disposed of.
The facility remained fully functional during works, with McMahon Services maintaining a flexible schedule to allow access for trucks loading from the site.
The fertiliser stored in the facility was protected using tarps during the roof removal stages. The facility was re-roofed with double-sided ultra spandec, which will slow the rust generated from fertiliser fumes.
The project ran smoothly and on schedule with minimal disruptions. Unpredictable weather meant the team needed to adapt quickly to the challenging conditions, and maintain a high degree of awareness. Additional work included the removal and replacement of rusted purlins.
