Project Overview
In 2017, the University of South Australia (UniSA) required all chemicals – including dangerous goods chemicals – used in research at four different facilities, to be relocated to the new UniA Cancer Research Institute within the BioCity Precinct. Chemicals were to be relocated from the Centre of Biology under an alliance agreement with the South Australian State Government. Other chemicals were relocated from UniSA’s School of Pharmacy at their City East Campus.
McMahon Services were engaged for the safe packaging and transportation of the dangerous goods between the old and new facilities.
Works involved the safe packaging and transport of a range of hazardous chemicals from 200 laboratories. Chemicals were securely packaged in foamex boxes and each box was labelled with dangerous good stickers. Packaged chemicals were marked as flammable, infectious substance, oxidizing agent, organic peroxide, toxic and corrosive. Where required, temperature controls were in place at all times during the relocation.
Chemical relocation works were coordinated around other removal activities including laboratory animal and specialist equipment relocations
