Project Overview
This project included extensive carpentry and roofing works for the Glenside Hospital precinct redevelopment.
The redevelopment of Adelaide’s iconic Glenside Campus was a large multifaceted project, demanding multiple work fronts and a wide range of skills and expertise.
Carpentry:
The Building Services division was contracted to complete carpentry packages across six new buildings within the precinct.
A team of up to 24, led by Site Project Manager, Dennis Whiteside – a qualified Carpenter and Joiner with over 48 years’ experience – completed first fix carpentry works on two buildings and second fix carpentry on all six buildings.
The first fix works included wall and roof frames and roof trusses, with second fix works including the supply and installation of timber and metal doors and frames, along with specialist doors.
Works also included the supply and installation of door hardware, specialist fittings and fixtures such as anti-ligature door furniture and hardware, and second fix timbers such as skirtings, architraves and windowsills.
In total, the Building Services division installed over 660 doors, approximately 8.5 kilometres of imported skirtings, over $200,000 in hardware and 800 square metres of external wall cladding.
The project also proved to be a great experience for four in-house carpentry apprentices, learning the ropes over a 20 month period on site.
Roofing:
McMahon Services’ Roofing division was also on the job, carrying out a two stage project. Phase 1 included roofing and cladding works to a central building using 2000 square metres of 140 Kingspan – a product brought across from Western Australia that had never been used before by McMahon Services.
Phase 2 involved the installation of over 3000 square metres Custom Orb Colorbond roofing, gutters and downpipes to the Supported Accommodation block – 10 buildings in total. The team also completed wall cladding for the carport facilities.
