Project Overview
Area C is located 120km northwest of Newman and contains a mineral resource of some 820 million tonnes of MAC™ Marra Mamba ore. Initial mining commenced in 2003 at the C Deposit, which has an ore reserve of 204 million tonnes. The mine is connected via a 39km spur line, to the railway system linking BHP’s existing mines at Newman and Yandi to its ship loading facilities at Port Hedland.
BHP engaged McMahon Services to process and remove old conveyor belts and other redundant assets and consumables from the Old Conveyor Yard and Bone Yard at BHP’s Mining Area C. Works included the processing and removal of conveyor belts, reels, steel, concrete, timber, plastics, light poles, hand rails, fire extinguishers, portable buildings and car bodies. Final works were the cleaning of remediated areas.
Over 3600t of conveyor belts, 12t of fire extinguishers, 50t of steel, 4900L of hydrocarbons and 1500t of other waste was remediated offsite.
