Project Overview
McMahon Services were engaged on a construct only basis by Jacobs on behalf of Department of Defence to undertake the refurbishment of the Woomera Community Centre, a project which involved transforming the existing Community Centre site into a new Medical Clinic.
A review completed by Department of Defence identified the disused Community Centre building as being suitable for the new Medical Clinic, which would allow closure of the existing hospital, and better cater for the community population. Due to client project approval time frames, the construction works needed to be completed by July 2015, setting a tight time frame for planning, procurement and execution of the works
The project scope included:
- Civil works for new concrete driveway for ambulance access;
- New structural canopy for weather protection for waiting ambulances;
- New HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) plant to ensure suitable temperature control within the new Medical Clinic;
- Data and electrical upgrades throughout;
- New energy efficient lighting;
- Installation of new security system;
- Installation of new dry fire system;
- Installation of new flooring, doors, door hardware and partitions;
- Installation of new joinery to reception area;
- Painting of internal walls and external doors;
- Installation of new hot water system, sinks, basins and troughs;
- Conversion of existing store room into a disabled toilet facility including underfloor waste, new flooring, wall lining and hydraulic fittings;
- External line marking for car park designation;
- BiLock security keying of the facility.
Post completion, McMahon Services was further engaged to undertake acoustic noise upgrades to the
facility. These works included:
- Construction of additional acoustic walls to create corridors;
- Extension of walls to underside of existing roof sheeting;
- Modification to existing HVAC ducting and air grill boxes;
- Minor fire and electrical alterations;
- Existing doors upgraded to acoustically rated with new doors and hardware;
- Flooring and skirting modifications;
- Painting.
McMahon Services was able to execute the project within the tight time frame and within a residential location. Our extensive pre-planning and organisation on this project was key to achieving the best project outcome for the client and the community.
