West Venture Campus Redevelopment

Project Overview

Two stage campus redevelopment project demonstrating the civil capabilities of McMahon Services and Intract Indigenous Contractors.

McMahon Services were contracted by Coppock & Associates on behalf of Westminister School to undertake a two stage campus redevelopment project, which involved working between two sites 90 kilometres apart.

The first stage of the project involved disconnecting and preparation works required to remove ablution blocks from Westminister at Marion and move them to the Point Sturt campus. Work at Point Sturt also included the installation of service trenches, electrical and hydraulic works, and building works such as new decking and work to amenities buildings and existing student dormitories.

Prior to the relocation of the buildings, McMahon Services engaged Intract Indigenous Contractors, who undertook pad preparation and assisted with service works and disconnections.

The second stage of works consisted of the relocation of transportable class rooms from Westminster School at Marion to their new foundations at Port Sturt. The challenge of maneuvering the crane between existing buildings to gain access to the buildings to be removed was successfully achieved. Special attention was required for this operation to be completed safety, as the school remained fully operational.

Further work at Point Sturt included internal fit-out of the classrooms to create a camp leaders quarters and staff dormitory with showers and toilets. A new ritreat sewerage system, including subsurface irrigation (of the treated water) and all pipework reticulation was also incorporated into the works on site.
