Project Overview
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Works program provides $250 million in funding over three years to refurbish and redevelop 139 primary and secondary school facilities for the provision of contemporary STEM programs. The new learning facilities will support and enhance student engagement in STEM related areas to encourage future innovation and productivity.
McMahon Services were engaged to undertake roofing and cladding works for an outdoor learning environment at Seaton High School, in Adelaide South Australia. The new construction allows for students to conduct activities outside under a covered environment.
Roofing comprised of 150m² of True Oak deep 0.48 Colorbond Surfmist roofing and 32m² of 10mm Orange Dapalon canopy Cladding comprised of 30m² of 75mm Everbright walling and 150m² of perforated 0.48 Zincalume true oak deep ceiling lining.
Works were delivered using SPYDA temporary anchor points on roof for fall restraint, mobile scaffolding and scissor lift for roof access. Major challenges for the works involved working around other contractors and trades requiring the establishment of exclusion zones in roofing and cladding work vicinities.
Workforce peaked at four personnel. All works were completed on time without incurring any safety or environmental incidents.
