RAAF Base Tindal Refurbishment Works

Project Overview

Royal Australian Air Force’s Base Tindal is 15km outside Katherine and 320km by road southeast of Darwin in the Northern Territory. Although the airfield was constructed in 1942, it is the Air Force’s youngest major operational base and one of Australia’s most important Defence installations.

As part of the ongoing maintenance work delivered for Broadsprectrum at RAAF Base Tindal, McMahon Services was engaged to refurbish multiple onsite buildings. Works in the Community Centre and Base Services Building involved removing and replacing kitchen joinery, fridges and microwaves, while a projector and screen were installed in the Community Centre Rooms.

Works in the Officers Mess and Sergeants Mess Building included refurbishment of existing parquetry flooring, interior painting to the kitchen, toilets and cleaners’ room, and painting to exterior of building, installation of new tiles to toilets and cleaners’ room, and complete refurbishment of all toilets and bathrooms.

The Swimming Pool Ablution and Change Rooms required a complete refurbishment including painting to exterior and internal walls of building, installation of new tiles and replacement of joinery and fixtures.

Overall, the project delivered 1961m² of exterior painting, 2430m² of interior painting, 724m² of parquetry floor tiling, and 239m² of new tiles in the bathroom areas.
