Metalcom D&C New Premises

Project Overview

Design & Construct – New Metalcom premises in the Gap Ridge Industrial Estate.

McMahon Services was engaged to complete a Design & Construct staged project for the Pilbara’s largest scrap metal recycler – Metalcom. The project required Metalcom operations to remain fully functioning while construction works for the new facility were carried out.

To ensure minimal disruption, McMahon Services sought dispensation through Landcorp and the Shire to move the business from the existing premises located in the Light Industrial Area (LIA), Karratha to the new 3.4 hectare site in the Gap Ridge Industrial Estate.

Project Staging

Stage 1 (Civil): Crossovers and road base hardstand, weighbridge for double trailers, on-site driver fatigue accommodation and temporary offices

Stage 2 (Relocation): Moving the existing Metalcom operations from LIA Karratha to the Gap Ridge Industrial Estate (approximately 10 kilometres away)

Stage 3 (Building): Construction of office and warehouse, fuelling facility, heavy plant and wash facility

The area totals 33,940 square metres and includes additional warehousing and storage facilities, along with a maintenance workshop.

The design element of the project was delivered through the strong partnership formed between McMahon Services and IA Group based in Adelaide. Through McMahon Services’ strong national logistics network, the offices based in Karratha, Perth and Adelaide worked closely together to deliver a seamless project.
