Graincorp Redevelopment

Project Overview

Demolition works, removal of discovered asbestos and re-cladding of two 40m structures.

Located in the Ports precinct at the mouth of the Brisbane river, the Graincorp upgrade for Barrett Burston Malting is valued at approximately $40 million to supply the ever growing beer market in Queensland. McMahon Services were involved in three separate contracts; one direct with Graincorp, and two subcontracting demolition works from Ahrens and Built Environs.

The redevelopment saw multiple projects runing simultaneously demanding increased attention to the coordination of trades across the site. Managing multiple phases of works such as removal of overhead, underground and interior (obsolete) conveyor systems, weighbridge plant and multiple structures required regular communication and negotiation with numerous on-site contractors.

The site management was further tested with the removal of multiple Asbestos products in various locations including the recladding of two 40m structures previously covered with Galbestos sheeting. This became a $750 000 variation for works commenced in early 2010.
