Project Overview
FC60 & FC70 Accommodation Camp Upgrade – Moomba, South Australia.
McMahon Services was awarded the Design & Construct contract for the installation of the new FC60 & FC70 Accommodation Camp Upgrade in Moomba, South Australia.
The design elements required for the upgrade included:
- Civil works
- All hydraulic services, including; water, sewer, fire hose reel and hydrant, pipework reticulation, sewer pump station and water chiller plant and correction.
- All electrical, communications and fire detection services
Once mobilised and established on site, the civil works began. The multi-skilled team from the Building Services’ division completed the following:
- Detailed service identification
- Site strip and stockpile excavated material on site
- Trim and compact subgrade
- Supply and place rubble fill to create building plateaus
- Placement of building precast footings
- Placement of sundry cast in concrete items including steps, ramps and slabs
- Batter treatment to building plateaus
- Reshaping and rip rap protection of swale drain
- Concrete veranda slabs and interconnecting footpaths
- Bollard and emergency / exit lighting
- Site survey
The installation works were then separated into two stages. Stage 1 consisted of the installation of 1 x (8×2) cluster and 1 x (6×2) cluster accommodation blocks, along with the construction of a BBQ dining area including concrete paving, modular shade structures, heaters, lighting, furniture, and BBQs.
To finish Stage 1, the project team supplied and installed all electrical services, including main board, domestic water supply, sewage collection system with pumping units and rising main, communications network and a fire hydrant system.
Stage 2 involved the installation of 2 x (8×2) clusters and 1 x (4×2) cluster, along with verandas, stairs, and all associated electrical and hydraulic works.
McMahon Services completed this project with all in-house trades and personnel. Intract Indigenous Contractors – McMahon Services Indigenous labour division – were also on site, and trained and employed local Aboriginal people from the surrounding homelands specifically for the upgrade works.
On completion of the project, McMahon Services delivered a total of 267 rooms, plus communications, laundry and disabled access rooms.
The project was delivered in approximately 18,000 man hours, with 28% Indigenous engagement and zero lost time injuries.
