Dubbo Multi-User Depot Dining Facility Works

Project Overview

The Dubbo 1st/19th Battalion, Royal New South Wales Regiment (1/19 RNSWR) depot had a sub-standard kitchen which was unsafe and too small to meet the catering needs for the Army, Air Force and Army Reserve cadets who trained there.

McMahon Services were engaged to upgrade the kitchen through a competitive tendering process, with an emphasis on the use of local subcontractors. There was a significant challenge on the job to identify, engage and work with 15 unknown subcontractors to deliver the works to specification and program.

The scope of works included the demolition, refurbishment and expansion of an existing external laundry and kitchen area and to enclose it to form a practical internal kitchen. The new kitchen was fitted high-quality commercial equipment with the capacity to serve over 100 people while an outdoor covered dining area was constructed to accommodate up to 90 people.

Included in the new installation was 32m³ of earthworks, a new retaining wall, re-configuring of 100m of drainage, and the installation of turf and landscaping. A new 50m sewer pipe connection was required for the kitchen’s trade waste which included the installation of a below ground grease trap and tank. All new works required multiple building and finishing trades. 90m² of new roofing was installed.
