Ben Hammond Complex Asbestos Removal

Project Overview

The Ben Hammond Complex was one of the largest asbestos removal projects carried out in the Northern Territory.

The contract involved the removal of 12,000m² of galbestos roof sheeting, which is galvenised iron that has had a bitumen paint applied to both sides of the sheet which contained a large amount of blue asbestos fibers.

The material was in poor condition and asbestos material was beginning to flake away from the sheets which has the potential to become airborne.

McMahon Services completed the project over a 3 month period during the dry season. The project was carried out without any safety incidents or lost time injuries.

McMahon Services completed the project with all airborne readings well below statutory standards. NT WorkSafe commended McMahon Services personnel on site on a project well done.
