Air 8000 Battlefield Airlifter and Bellman Hangars Demolition Works

Project Overview

Air 8000 Phase 2 is a Department of Defence project to replace the retired DHC-4 Caribou specialised cargo planes and provide the Australian Defence Force with an enhanced intra-theatre and regional airlift capability. This has been achieved through acquisition of a fleet of ten new Alenia C-27J Spartan light tactical fixed wing aircraft acquired through the United States Air Force.

Laing O’Rourke was awarded the Main Operating Base Facilities project at RAAF Base Amberley, which will provide necessary working, logistics, training, maintenance and technical facilities to support the introduction of the C-27J aircraft. The new Base will included headquarters, hangar, maintenance and warehouse facilities, a new simulator and training facility, new apron, high mast airfield ground lighting and hydrant refuelling.

McMahon Services were award the service isolation, asbestos remediation and demolition works of the previous RAAF Base Amberley facilities that will be replaced by the new Main Operating Base Facilities.
