Demolition and disposal of 498 tonne Russian vessel.
The Volga was a Russian vessel caught illegally fishing for Patagonian Tooth Fish in Australian Territorial waters. It was forfeited to the Government and the AFM Commonwealth Delegate acted to dispose of the vessel. The Volga's dimensions were sizeable - 50.4 metres length, 8.51 metres beam and 498 tonnes weight.
McMahon Services' have dismantled several other illegal fishing vessels in the Darwin yards making them ideal contractors to undertake the works.
Materials removed:
- Asbestos - Friable - 6 cubic metres was sent to dedicated landfill
- Hazardous - Zinc Chromate, Mercury, PCB's, Diesel, Battery Acid and Hydraulic Oil
The above mentioned materials and also 40 tonnes of other materials including timber, plastic and foam were sent to landfill.
Metals recycled:
- 35 tonnes of lead ingots
- 200 tonnes of steel
