- Contract Asbestos Removal and Internal Demolition
- Cost $7 Million
- Duration October 2008 - March 2010
Asbestos removal works and demolition of all internal elements of each level was completed under asbestos conditions.
McMahon Services were contracted by DTEI to remove friable asbestos fire proofing from structural steel beams and columns within levels eight and nine of the east wing building. Other asbestos materials removed included pipe lagging, floor tiles and asbestos sheeting.
In conjunction with the asbestos removal works, demolition of all internal elements of each level was completed under asbestos conditions due to the presence of friable asbestos contamination within walls.
Key features of this project included; removal of friable asbestos from within a fully operational hospital during normal working hours, and emolition and removal of a lift motor room that included the removal of concrete slabs suspended above lift shafts. These works required detailed suspended scaffold and propping of the concrete slabs to allow saw cutting and removal by hand.
