Industrial services, labour hire and general operations at Port Pirie Nyrstar Lead Smelter
McMahon Services provide industrial services and labour hire to the general operation of the Nyrstar Lead Smelter in Port Pirie. As a result of our 24/7 presence on site over the past 26 years we have gained intimate knowledge of the operational requirements and restrictions of the various smelter facilities. This information combined with our exemplary OH&S statistics on site ensures McMahon Services play a key role in the strategy, planning and implementation of the various shutdowns.
McMahon Services are instrumental in strategising the shutdown works to be undertaken, the timing of these works, and the various labour and plant resources to be made available. Depending on the shutdown in question, McMahon Services are able to provide in excess of 110 people on a continual 12 hour rotating shift on a day and night basis. Duration of shutdowns are usually between 10 and 22 days, non-stop 24/7.
Services provided to Nyrstar throughout the shutdown period include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead refining
- Blast furnace & Molten metal digouts (internal & external)
- Brick flu digouts (internal & external)
- Industrial cleaning (high volume vacuuming)
- High pressure water cleaning (up to 22,000 psi)
- Provision of plant & equipment
- Industrial spillage cleanup works
