Safety at New Heights

McMahon Services is reaching all new highs, designing and implementing innovative solutions to ensure the highest safety standards for site personnel working at heights.
The Static Line System involves a freestanding safety mechanism independent of the project structure. The System is a series of concrete blocks, guy wires and Super Slim supports that provide a static safety line suspended above the project. The key feature of this system is that workers have access to all roof areas but they don't have to detach from the safety wire.
The inertia reel and lanyard is suspended overhead, meaning an effective restraint control is in place and all safety equipment is clear of the work area. The Static Line set up can also be done from the ground, further minimising risks.
McMahon Services also designed and developed the Walkway System, purpose built for the $5 million Adelaide Aquatic Centre roof upgrade. This project included demolition and removal of 800m2 of cement shingle roof tiles, timber battens, insulation blanket and stramit ceiling tiles, along with installation of 7km of new roof purlins and 800 linear metres of HPS 200 king klip roofing and Dampalon sheeting and 800 linear metres of steel rafters, and an electrical upgrade.
The 30 metre access walkway system allowed staff to access the roof during both demolition and reinstatement works. A lifting spreader beam was also manufactured to raise the walkway into position and pick up the 32 metre long Dampalon and metal roof sheets required.
Safety remains at the forefront of our operations, underpinned by our Safety Focused culture. We will continue to invest in new technologies to ensure we maintain a safe working environment for our workforce, as well as key stakeholders and the wider community.
