Intract Indigenous Contractors
In 2010 Intract was launched - a business formed through the partnership of McMahon Services and The Aboriginal Foundation of South Australia to secure long-term employment for Indigenous people in the mining and civil construction industries.
Intract provides education and skills training, as well as cross cultural development and the preservation of Aboriginal culture. Intract is about instilling confidence into local Aboriginal communities and creating opportunities for financial independence.
The Intract Indigenous Employment Program, funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), was established to further support training and development. A civil construction 'work ready' training and recruitment program was designed by Bedford Group specifically for the initiative. Trainway were then engaged to coordinate a five week intensive program focusing on a selection of competency units from Certificate II in Civil Construction (RII20709).
Cross Cultural Awareness Training is also provided to all graduates to help them understand their culture, where they came from, where they are now, and what the future may hold.
McMahon Services has a long history of working in, around and with Indigenous communities and the formation of Intract enables us to use this knowledge and experience to deliver long-term benefits to Aboriginal people through the provision of stable jobs, training, skills transfer, and comprehensive mentoring and support.
McMahon Services has also welcomed legendry Australian footballer Michael Long as our Indigenous Ambassador, giving a voice to Indigenous training and employment, and supporting the Intract team.
